Create First Project In VSTS And Clone It Using Tortoise GIT

Creating Project in VSTS

  1. Login with VSTS using your Personal or Work account.

    https://www.visualstudio.com/team-services/ 

  2. Click on "Create Account".



  3. Give URL of your project.

    Ex: We give URL of Project “csharpcornerblogs”.

    Choose to manage code using “GIT”.

    Click "Continue".


  4. Your first project has been created successfully.



  5. Copy the URL to clone the project.

Clone the Project Using Tortoise GIT

  1. Download and install Tortoise Git using below URL.

    https://tortoisegit.org/download/

  2. Now, right-click on File System > Click Git Clone.



  3. In URL = Paste Copied URL

    Check the Checkbox for Recursive.

    Click on OK.


  4. Enter credential for VSTS Account.



  5. It will show cloning Process.



  6. Once Cloning has been successful, it will prompt this message.



  7. Cloning has been created successfully.



  8. Add the files to this created Project.

Push Files to VSTS Project.

  1. First, we will need to Add Files to Git.
  2. Right-click on a project folder that we have cloned > Tortoise git > Add.



  3. Select All Files and Click on Add.



  4. Once Files are Added, it asks to Commit Files. Click on Commit button



  5. Enter Commit Message > Click on Commit



  6. Now, Click on Push button to Push Files.

Overview of Dashboard in VSTS

  1. We can see the following Dashboard on VSTS.



  2. Now, click on Code. It will show all Projects and Content.



  3. When we click on “Commit”, it will show all committed files.



  4. When we click on “Pushes”, it will show all Pushed files.



  5. “Branches” will show all the branches.
