The tool does three different memory checks and two passes. After both passes are completed, the computer restarts and Windows will boot again. If the Memory Diagnostics Tool detects problems with your computer's memory, contact your computer or memory manufacturer for information about fixing the problem. If the Memory Diagnostics Tool does not find any errors, you'll get a message that no errors were found.

When you are received a notification about a possible memory problem, click the notification and choose between two options for run the Memory Diagnostics Tool.

  • You can restart your computer and run the tool immediately.
  • You can restart your computer and run the tool later.

If you choose restart your Computer and run the Tool immediately and make sure that your work is completely saved and close all running programs. The Memory Diagnostic tool will run automatically when you restart Windows. It might take several minutes for checking the Computer memory. While the memory Diagnostic tool runs, you will look a progress bar for the status of test. If test is done, Windows will restart automatically. If the tool detects errors, you should contact your computer manufacturer for information about fixing them, since memory errors usually indicate a problem with the memory chips in your computer or other hardware problem.

Advanced Option For Running the Memory Diagnostics Tool

The memory Diagnostics Tool run automatically and the advanced might want to adjust the Tool settings. These are given below.

1. When the Memory Diagnostics Tool starts, press F1.

2. You can adjust the following settings.

  • Test mix choose what type of test you want to run Basic, Standard and Extended. The choices are described in the Tool.
  • Cache Choose the Cache setting you want for each test like as Default, On or Off.
  • Pass Count You want to repeat the steps type the number of times.

3. Press F10 to start the test.

Steps to start Memory Diagnostic Tool in Windows 8

Step 1 : Click on Start to open Windows 8 Metro UI screen and then select CONTROL PANEL as shown below.

Step 2 : You moved the cursor on the right bottom and can search the Control Panel and Click and Open the Control Panel.

Step 3 : Select the System and Security in the Control Panel.

Step 4 : Open the Administrator Tool, it is the last option under System and Security.

Step 5 : In the administrative tools window opened you have a show list of options from which click open the 'Windows memory diagnostic'.

Step 6 : Now you can see the option to check the memory errors and click the 'Restart now and check for problem' option, before that saved any unsaved work running your PC.

Step 7 : Once you select to restart, the windows memory diagnostic tool starts checking and restarts automatically displaying the result.
