Disable the Charms Bar and Switcher Hot Corners in Windows 8

Introduction

In this article we explain how to disable the Charms Bar and switcher hot corners in Windows 8. In Windows 8, when we move our mouse to the corners of the Windows 8 screen, many programs can stop the app switcher and charms from appearing. But with this quick registry hack we can do it ourself.

Step 1

First of all we have to move to the Start screen window of Windows 8.

Step 2

Then move the cursor on the bottom-right of the window screen and click the search box which is helpful to search in Windows 8.

Step 3

Then in the search box type "regedit" and open the regedit.exe file. Click Yes when the User Account Control prompt appears.

The Registry Editor window open.

Step 5

Navigate to the following registry key in the registry editor:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

Step 6

Right-click the ImmersiveShell key, point to New, and select Key.

Step 7

Then we the change name EdgeUI and press enter.

Step 8

Right-click the EdgeUI key, point to New, and select the DWORD Value.

Step 9

Then we change the name DisableTLcorner and press enter.

Create another DWORD value in the same way and name it DisableCharmsHint.

Step 10

Double-click the DisableTLcorner value, type 1, and press Enter. This disables the top-left hot corner, which activates the switcher by default.

Step 11

Double-click the DisableCharmsHint value, type 1, and press Enter. This disables the top-right and bottom-right hot corners, which reveal the Charms Bar by default.
