What is API app in Azure

  • It makes it easier to develop, host, and consume APIs in the cloud and on-premises.
  • It provides security, simple access control, hybrid connectivity, automatic SDK generation, and seamless integration with Logic Apps.
  • It’s a fully managed platform for the web, mobile, and integration scenarios.

Implementation – Create an API app in Azure

Steps to be followed,

  • Open Azure portal and click on the "Add" button. Then, select Everyone and search for API App.
Fill in the details with the name of the API app using the existing resource group.
  • Go to App Services section and check the newly created app service.

Implementation – Create a sample API application in VS 2017 and publish into Azure.

Steps to be followed.

  • Open VS 2017 and create a project with ASP.NET Web Application with the name “api-app-15-08-17”.
  • Choose "Empty" template by selecting the WebAPI option and click OK.
  • Create a WebAPI2 Empty Controller with the name “HomeController”.
  • Write a simple method to return a string from the method “Get” with the HTTPGET verb.
  • Right click on the project and publish the application on the Azure Cloud as “API-APP”.
  • Click "Publish" and select the existing API App. Then, click OK and wait for the time it gets published.
  • Open the browser with the URL to access the API method.
