Copy List Items Across Lists In SharePoint 2016 Using Nintex Workflow

SharePoint 2016 General Availablity had been announced in the Future Of SharePoint conference in May 2016. The series that discusses the installation of SharePoint 2016 in Azure can be found at C# Corner from the links, given below.

Nintex is a premium technology partner for SharePoint. With the announcement of SharePoint 2016, Nintex has made the announcement of the general availability of Nintex Workflow 2016 on July 11, 2016.

In this article, we will see how to copy the list items to a different list in SharePoint, using Nintex Workflow 2016. We will maintain the two lists.

  • Master List- It is the list, where the list items will be created initially.
  • Backup List- It is the list, where the list items will be copied as a part of back up.

The scope of the article will be around the following.

  • Create the list items in the Master List
  • Copy the list item to the Backup List by triggering Nintex Workflow

Let’s go ahead to the primary list, where we will be running our Nintex Workflow. In our case, it is the ‘Master’ List. Select ‘Create a Workflow in Nintex Workflow’.

This will open up Nintex Workflow designer. We can select the actions from the left pane. Add the ‘Copy Item’ action to the form.

Once Run, if the action is added, it will show the condition missing warning.

Click on Configure button in the action.

This opens up the form, where the information required to copy the list items has to be entered.

Specify the destination list, where the list items have to be copied.

The Workflow form will eventually look, as given below.

Now, we have to set the Workflow triggering condition. Click on Workflow Settings.

Here, we are setting it to ‘Start manually’, so that the Workflow can be triggered, as required.

Now, publish the workflow.

Specify the Workflow name, description and submit.

The Workflow is being published.

Finally, the publishing is completed.

Now, let’s head over to the Master List and create an Item. Once the item is created, go to the Workflow settings page, where you can find the ‘Copy List Items’ Workflow.

Click on Start to trigger the Workflow.

This will start the Workflow.

The Workflow has completed. You can check the status by verifying the Workflow column ‘Copy List Items’.

Going to the backup list, we can see the item has been copied to the backup list from Master list.

Summary

Thus, we saw how to copy SharePoint 2016 list items from one list to another, using Nintex Workflow 2016.
