History of Java

Introduction

It is very interesting to know the history of java. There is a group of members known as "green team" who proposed the task to develop a language which is very useful for digital devices such as televisions, VCRs etc.

History

Below are some major points those describes the history of java :

  1.  In June 1991, the trio of James Gosling, Mike Sheridan, and Patrick Naughton proposed a project named as java language project.
  2.  This team is known as the "green team".
  3.  Initially James Gosling named it as "Greentalk".
  4.  After that the team named it as "oak".
  5.  The team named it as oak because oak is the national tree of many countries and it is also the symbol of strength.
  6.  "Oak" was renamed as "Java" in the year 1995.
  7.  Java is an island where first coffee was introduced. It is situated in Indonesia.
  8.  Time magazine called java as the one of the best products in the year 1995.
  9.  The main agenda of Java language is to "write once and run anywhere".
  10.  Sun released Java as open source software in 2006.
  11.  In the year 2009-2010 Oracle Corporation acquire the Sun Microsystems.
