C# Visual C# 2005 Express version

Question

Hi

i downloaded the c# programming word file book. in section you talk about downloading the Visual C# 2005 Express version. when

i go to microsoft to download this it is not listed. they have the visual studio express version. what is the difference?

i don't know what i am downloading here. is this the editor? is it the ide?

i downloaded the visual studio express and then the .net sdk. which i also do not know what that is.

Since Visual C# 2005 Express was released there have been Express products in 2008 2010 2012 and (just recently) 2013. I think I'd download Visual C# Express 2010 which is the closest available to the 2005 edition from this link: http://www.visualstudio.com/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs The product is an IDE which includes the visual designer and code editor together with templates for various types of C# application. It is a free (and therefore cut down) version of the full Visual Studio product. The download includes everything you need including the C# compiler and .NET framework so there is no need to download the SDK as well. Although there will inevitably be differences between the 2005 and 2010 editions hopefully you'll still be able to follow the book using the latter.
