Confused - unasigned variable

Question

can u look at the attached code and tell me why in the last if statement the compile is saying unassigned local variable?

Also - will that last if statement add a line to the end of a file with out overwriting anything in the file?

The compiler can't be sure that you've assigned a value to 'newUser' before the if statement is encountered. So I'd give it a default value when you declare it: bool newUser = false; // or true as appropriate The answer to the second question is 'yes' because you're calling the AppendText method.
