Database connectivity

Question

Hi there I'm new to C# and I need to know what databases are possible to use with the language. I do know that SQL Server is supported and recommended by many pro's but what other types are possible? Firebird seems like a fine alternative by me but as I know right now it is the responsibility of the Firebird group to arrange connectivity to it's database right? Is C# a good language to develop a medium sized CRM-application with? Thanks in advance!

Hey Man Welcome to C# and I hope you truly enjoy your experience with it. In my estimation it is much like any other C derivative applications but I like the fact that it works with Visual Studio. C# is a very powerful language. I know many large scale applications that have been written specifically in C#. As far as using it I would say give it a try. If you don’t like it work with something else. I love it I came from Visual Basic (wheeezzzeee barf) and I will never go back. Then again if you are familiar with Java then C# will be easy to pickup. In my experience I have only ever used 3 databases. MSSQL MYSQL and Oracle. All three are supported within C# if you have the appropriate API's or if you are using Visual Studio you can use the built in classes from their framework to get a connection to each of these databases. I have used firebird but I did some searches and it looks like it is supported.
