Difference between COM and COM+

Question

Hi All Can anyone explain me the difference between COM and COM+. I know about COM and used some COM components also. But now I am really puzzled about COM+. Is it some advance version of COM component. If any1 has some knows plz share... Thanks & Regards s_raj0205

Hi Tnx a lot 4 da reply. As u said through COM+ we can instantiate an object in another computer. But we can do that using REMOTING. Or u want to say that a component which has remoting codes are COM+ component. And also u said DCOM is a protocol that anables COM object to be instantiat in another computer. Is DCOM is a protocol ? A protocol  as i know is a special set of rules that we use to communicate data accross network. For writing COM+ component do we need to folow some specific rules. I will appreciate ur help if u can crear my doubts... as i am tired googling....what we get ther is typical definitions and implementatins.... tnx n Regards s_raj0205

Hi may b this vl help u out to the extent COM+ is the integration of the MTS and DCOM DCOM: Distributed-COM. The protocol that enables a COM object to be instantiated on another computer from the one that is using the code (ie. call from a client machine in London but the code runs on the machine in New York). MTS: Microsoft Transaction Server. How MS coordinate a transaction across multiple servers. Specifically for multi-step operations that require the system to either work 100% or to revert back to a state before the transaction was started. COM is the component object model which is used on the local machine but COM+ is the Com plus activex feature. means it can be used as remotely All the legacy components developed are com componenets. COM+ contains some enhandced features. YOu can call com server in dotnet compoenet.you can not directly communicate with com from dotnet client. You will have to use proxy (Runtime callable wrapper) to communicate between them. Com and Com+ is considerend unmanaged because they do not contain the assembly meta data. Com and com+ are binary standard. Extension of com and com+ component is dll.
