Good windows installer tutorial

I need directions on making an installer for my application. It needs to check if a database exists create one if it doesnt and assign a few settings variable.

for that you need to configure a web service on Internet that can give you latest version of software exe if ( software verson is { //Download the Exe and replace with existing one }

Thank you im on the right track. If i want to make sure the application checks for updates how should I go about that?

you does not need Installer for accomplish this task you can code your Application exe that can check if database is exist or not and you can define application settings by Project Menu > Application Property >Settings For Creating Setup in Visual Studio File > New >Project > Other Type of Project > Setup and Deployment
