How hard to learn C#.Net

Question

I am proficient in C++ ( object polymorphism inheritance pointers). and that i have worked in VBA VC++ before. Is C#.NET syntax very different from the above languages? Conceptual wise I know OPP language are similar I just need to know SYNTAX wise difficulty. Can anyone give me a rough estimate time needed to adopt the language (be able to write routines and such). Also can anyone point me to a good C#.NET tutorial (So I don't end up looking through bunch of tutorial to determine which ones are good)? Thanks for you help

Since you are already aware of C++ learning C# won't take much time but again it depends on your learning pace. I would point you to the Microsoft Virtual Academy they got some good tutorial on C# . NET. The best part is these courses are taught by Microsoft experts for free and you can learn at your own pace.

Hi Julia Well the rough estimate to learn this language is all depends on your curiosity. Since you're not a beginner to programming and you are aware with OOPS concepts so well (as you've mentioned) you just need to grab the semantics and syntax of the language and I think an experienced programmer can start writing methods (routines) in a single day. Dear Julia If you are having good command on C++ as you said..then its not too difficult to learn C#.net for you. Its take about 1-2 month to learn also depend on how much time per day you spend and how much time to learn concept. Some are too easy but some need more time like how we use deligates events etc. A good book to learn c# is either WROX or Head First editions. Almost both are free on many sites.

Hi Julia If you are proficient in one OOP Language So you can easily learn(architecture) another OOP language. All OOP language have same OOP concept like 1.Object 2. Class 3. Encapsulation. (Class is blue print for object) 4. Polymorphism (Method overriding Operatorer Overloading Method Overloading) 5. Abstracation (Use Interface and Abstract Class) 6. Inheritance (One class inherits another class or interface features). So you are good in all these concept. Now you want to learn C#. Each language has own grammar and vocabulary. Without vocabulary can't learn grammar but we know that our syntax like subject+verb+object So same thing happen in c#. It has own keyword and syntax. I prefer you purchase a hard copy of C# language book. I would like to suggest to you that download C# programming book for Book section on this site(C# Corner) so you can do quickly as you want.
