According to the following MSDN help topic: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms630783%28v=vs.85%29.aspx The CommonDialog.ShowSelectDevice method is designed to show WIA based devices only. Most modern scanners have Twain and WIA drivers. However if a scanner has Twain driver only the ShowSelectDevice will not list it.
