How to push data from server?

Hi I am developing a web application which uses the timer to check the update in the database.But now i want to update the page when the data get updated in the database without the timer is that possible? Please help me to get out of this problem.

well it is possible by 2 ways: 1. an activex that holds a connection to the server 2.
