normally this error occurs when not using proper CASE statement.

Actully the line you wrote does not contain any error. Actual error is occuring in your query which you are using to retrive the data from database check it.

Please put table details and the total code. Remember ExecuteReader returns DataReader instance not int...... Need more info to give you support.
