Is it right to move developer to tester .

Question

I started my career developer in 4 years experience but suddenly i move to tester , is it right to move my career ?

Hi,   I would say it will be matter of choice and further interest if it was conscious decision. If you moved by Org. then it different story and you can make your decision.   You can have equally successfully career as developer or QA/Tester in next 5-10 years no worries on that fornt.    Considering your experience leve 4-5 years it is ok to switch your path and there are options in QA area to grow but you have to be proactive. This applies to development track also. - 10 years ago people move to testing/QA when they wanted to get rid of coding and move to project management, you would see many PMs in giant IT companies. Problem now is these people are still there and will be fo ranother 10 years, so moving up from QA to project manager profiles have less options.   - If you are a manual tester then you would be extinct in couple of years, will not have much growth and further opportunities.    - Indian IT industry has  lot of matured people now of 12-20 years  experience and every year there are 2-3 Lakh new IT enginrres are added.   So lot of people to accomodate in volatile dependency on US, Industry has to grow horizontal and explore new areas:   For Testing/QA  options -: Specialise QA  So if you are in QA, you have to have coding skills and scripting skills. You have to learn automation testing and write scripts in C# or java.  You can keep up with the industry by learning RPA.  You can learn and move application security. (Penetration testing)    Move to Business Analyst profile : A thorough business analys in any particular domain like insurance, banking of manufacturing, a tester with good experience and additional learning or recognised certifications can move to be a BA.   You have new options but with competition.   If you are a develper you have to learn and adapt new technology within a year now, earlier it was 2-3 years.   All the best. You should have included more details/background in the question to help us help you better.   And it's not "Tester" but "QA" :)   coming to your question, whether it was right move or not depends on many aspects like: were you offerred a good raise in salary? were you offerred a chance to lead some other team members?
It also depends on future growth prospects and wheter you like working as QA or not.   Only you can decide if it was right move or not.

Thats true..... However i would say its good if you were a developer and now have moved to testing because nowadays even testing requires coding like Java. So if you have done development in java and moved to testing then you can develop codes in testing using selenium tools which are like hot selling cakes in todays market and testers with development experience are required. More over the salary offered is also good to testers if they know development as compared to those who are just manual testers and copy screen shots and work in MS word or MS Excel.   Hope this help !!!
