Personal File Extensions

Hi How to we create the  userdefined extentions  for the files that we save using our own applications// For Example: I have created a NOTEPAD application but I want to save the files with extension as  filename.dcb or something like that so that whenever user clicks on the file .. it opens the file using my software/.
