Problem with DirectX 9 SDK

Question

Hello I am trying to play .avi files on my Visual C# form in Visual Studio 2010 but I am getting a strange problem. I've download and installed the SDK though when I go to the Preferences list in my project the DirectX items aren't listed. If the code works with VS 2008 but not VS 2010 then we know that there is either a bug or something different for VS 2010. Getting the bug fixed or determining what we are supposed to know that we don't know helps Gary. Managed DirectX is supposed to work with managed code correct? I have not seen anything saying it does not work or that we are not supposed to use it or something saying to use something else.

Do you still have access to VS 2008? I could but I must use my old computer and I am not sure all the wires are still connected.

When i tried my C# 2008 code on C# 2010 by referencing MicrosoftAudioVideo.dll in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code\1.0.2902.0 the project froze. This is the dll C# 2008 references. I've only had C#2010 for two weeks so I'm still discovering the differences between it and C#2008.

I got the following when I tried Frogleg's code. This is the error I was getting from my DirectSound program before I changed the project to use .Net Framework version 4. I managed to get past this error by changing the version. The mamanged classes sure should work in a managed program. I have already tried to search for a solution but I probably limited my search to DirectSound. Hopefully there is a solution. Why did you download the SDK? That might have broken something. I did not install the SDK; I used the managed DirectX classes as they existed after installation of VS 2010. More specifically I used DirectSound. I don't know how to find the reference in the .NET tab but I hope you understand the following for finding it by browsing. As I said this is for DirectSound but I hope it is relevant for you too. Note that if you get a compile error that seems totally wrong then try changing the .Net Framework version to 3.5 or less. Then if you get a LoaderLock debugging warning during execution don't worry; it is expected. Let me know when that happens.

Use audio video playback Make sure to add reference to Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback in - add reference net tab Note you will get an error if run in debug mode so run the exe in the bin\debug folder Edit Sorry this will not work in C#2010 You can how ever embed windows media player on your form 1: On the toolbox rightclick and select choose items 2:In com components check Windows Media Player box 3: Drag media player on your form 4: To load file axWindowsMediaPlayer1.URL=(video file);
