Read dll file content

Question

Hi friends,

I need to read the file contents from the dll file using C#. That dll content which i am going to include in my project but i dont know how read it. Any one can help me to know the file content of the dll file.

Any answers could be appreciated..

There are very many types of DLLs. The three main types relevant here are: Managed Class Library COM Object Regular DLL There are many other types too. So please clarify what type of DLL it is. Also, I am not sure if you need to read the DLL file at design time (the " dll content which i am going to include in my project ") or during execution (" using C# "). You also did not specify what you need to read.

One more way is go to visual studio command prompt and write ILDASM which opens one assembly dessembler open the .dll file through ILDASM. it will show all the methods classes and field information of .dll file.

If it's a managed dll, then just add a reference to it your project. Then right click on the dll in Solution Explorer and view the namespaces, types etc. in the dll using the object browser. If it's an unmanaged dll, then you may be able to get an idea of the functions which it exports using the free tool, Dependency Walker ( http://www.dependencywalker.com/ ) or using the command line tool, dumpbin.exe, which comes with Visual Studio.
