What can be the problem if I have installed sql server 2008 but I m not able to make database in visual studio 2010.

follow   these quick steps to creating a database from within VS2010 In VS2010, ensure you can see the 'Server Explorer' toolbar (Ctrl+Alt+S should toggle it if you can't see it) With your Web Site Solution open, R-Click in the Server Explorer toolbox where it says Data Conenctions, and choose 'Create New SQL Server Database' This should bring up a dialogue asking for your server name and login details.  A default installation of SQL Server 2008 Express will have Windows Authentication, so simple click the drop down for the server name and hopefully you will find just one entry there for your local SQL Server Enter a name for your new database and press OK
Once done, in Server Explorer you should have a new node under 'Data Connections' with the name of you SQL Server followed by the name of your new database.  You can now navigate through tables, views, stored procedures, etc, and simply r-click and 'Add New ###' as required.
