Selected value of dropDownlist in MVC3 Razor

Question

I am Using Drop Down List in Asp.net MVC 3 Razor.

i Need to fill it and show the selected value dynamically while editing it...

e.g.

i am editing a branch record whose company is suppose 'xyz'

so while editing the drop down list of company should xyz as selected value dynamically

please help me

@Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.CatId new SelectList(ViewBag.CatList CatId CatName) -Select-) 1. ViewBag.CatList (see the code below) CatId is the field in table which gives the id of category and CatName is the field in table which gives name of the category. The above code is sufficient for Add and Edit Here when we use it add data model => model.CatId will be null or 0. so it will select -Select- when we use the code in edit model => model.CatId will surely contain the id of category(here catId is Category Id in my case) and it will fill list then select the item according to the category id. ViewBag.CatList contains list if categories List lstCat; lstCat = objDbContext.Categories.ToList(); ViewBag.CatList = lstCat; Hope this code will help you in overcoming your edit problem
