Start cursor from 2nd character in mask text box

Question

Hi

I have mask text box with masking in it like (___)
ie. fisrt character of textbox is bracket "(" when I'll use tab key
and cursor come to this text box cursor blink before masked
character like |( that but I want to set cursor blink after
braket like (|. Please suggest how can I do this functionality.

The only way I can think of to do this is to handle the MaskedTextBox's GotFocus event which unfortunately isn't supported in the VS designer and so you'll need to wire it up yourself. First add the highlighted line to the form's constructor: public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); maskedTextBox1.GotFocus += maskedTextBox1_GotFocus; } Now add the following method: private void maskedTextBox1_GotFocus(object sender EventArgs e) { maskedTextBox1.SelectionStart = 1; maskedTextBox1.SelectionLength = 0; }

The reason why I didn't use the Enter event is because it warns you in the MSDN docs not to set focus within the handler it as it could lead to a message deadlock: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.control.enter.aspx However never mind if it seems to be working OK :)

Vulpes Thanks for your reply. Enter event is present in visual studion which works same like GotFocus and line given by you worked for me only change I added 1st line.. Thanks alot... maskedTextBox1.Focus(); maskedTextBox1.SelectionStart = 1; maskedTextBox1.SelectionLength = 0;
