What is Store Procedure?? and how and Why we use store Procedure ?? and what is difference between Store Procedure and function in SQL Server???

An important feature of stored procedures is that they are stored by SQL Server as part of the database. They are executed by SQL Server in the system that the database is in therefore they can be more efficient. Also since they are stored SQL Server can analyze the SQL and determine the most efficient way to do the SQL one time and then that analyses can be reused many times. If SQL is executed in a function in an application in a client computer then there is a potential for a very large amount of data being sent over the network which is potentially highly innefficient.

A function returns a value and a procedure just executes commands. The name function comes from math. It is used to calculate a value based on input. A procedure is a set of command which can be executed in order. In most programming languages even functions can have a set of commands. Hence the difference is only in the returning a value part. But if you like to keep a function clean (just look at functional languages) you need to make sure a function does not have a side effect.
