test my c# chat in the same pc

hi to all i`m really newbie in c# actually i'm developing a peer to peer chat but i have only one computer at my house my question is: is there a way to emulate a second pc inside my only one pc? i guess is something like a virtual machine but i don`t know whic software is the best or some configuration? can you give me some advices? thanks

127.0.0.1 loop back address should work. im also testing my network based programs with this address.

If your messing with that sort of stuff you cant be a total newbie :P Newbies are usually the kinds of people that come in and are like whats i.n.t. mean? lol. Nothing against newbies I was the same way when I first started :) I guess I should answer your question huh? I would start by finding a server emulation program that you can use to dock your P2P networking devices on so two computers can communicate. The only other way to communicate between two computers is TCP/IP and that sort of connection I dont think you can use to make your computer communicate with itself. Best idea is to find a friend and work with him over a line to get it to work. Of course Im somewhat of a newbie too... So there might be better ways. Anyone else have any ideas? Brandon

Can 't you use the same IP adress on both clients. For instance the loopback address: 127.0.0.1 . do you use tcp or udp?
