Windows Support XP/Vista/7

Question

I have writen some C# software which basicly writes and reads from a database to gives communication betwean PHP website and C# application. I'm useing Visual Studio 2010 Pro but can only drop support back to .Net 2.0 I would like full support for my software from Windows XP Original which i belive was .Net 1.1 Does anyone have a Good solution for me? ive heard that mono takes out .net support alltogether is this correct? if not a better solution. Thanks in advance!

Well the .NET Framework was never included in Windows XP by default as it is with Vista and Window 7. However there's nothing to stop XP users from downloading version 2.0 of the .NET redistibutable ( http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=19 ) so they can run your software provided they've installed service pack 2.0 or later and also have IE 5.01 or later. If you were to drop back to .NET 1.1 you'd need to acquire an old copy of VS 2003 and would have to rewrite the parts of the application which use .NET 2.0 features such as generics iterators anonymous methods etc.

Yes Mono is a 3rd party implementation of C# the CLR and the .NET Framework which can run on a variety of operating systems including Linux and MacOS X as well as Windows. However it doesn't support the entire .NET Framework - there's just too much of it and some of it is Windows specific. I'm trying to make the software as Available as possible without the need for Big Downloads. :( Is it true about Mono Incorperating .net withought the need for actualy Haveing .net?
