Apple has recently announced that they are building a new Data Center in the city of Waukee on the outskirts of Des Moines in Iowa. According to the company, the planned data center will be built on a 400,000-square-foot piece of land and will be running entirely on renewable energy just like other data centers.

The company estimates that the construction of the new facility will bring around 550 construction and operations jobs with an investment of over $1.3 billion. Also, the company is contributing up to $100 million to a newly created Public Improvement fund dedicated to community development and infrastructure around Waukee, such as libraries, parks, and other recreational spaces.
“At Apple, we’re always looking at ways to deliver even better experiences for our customers. Our new data center in Iowa will help serve millions of people across North America who use Siri, iMessage, Apple Music and other Apple services — all powered by renewable energy. Apple is responsible for 2 million jobs in all 50 states and we’re proud today’s investment will add to the more than 10,000 jobs we already support across Iowa, providing even more economic opportunity for the community.”
As mentioned in the press release, the construction work on the newly announced data center will start early next year and the company is expecting to have it online and fully functional sometime in 2020.
