The SharePoint Framework (SPFx) tools are expected to evolve SharePoint into embracing the JavaScript trend and incorporate usage of the trending JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular. Developers will have the freedom to chose the client side Javascript framework to build Web Parts. The tools will drive the platform into a more mobile friendly and responsive era.
Microsoft has vested interest in this release and the dogfooding along with the heavy community involvement promises a tried and tested solution.
