I/O conference, Google has showcased the new features of a smarter
Google Assistant. The digital assistant is now available on iPhones also as a special iOS app.
Google Assistant has been a highly ambitious project for Google since its launch in the last year's I/O event. The company is working hard to make it smarter so as to beat the competition with other AI assistants, such as - Amazon’s Alexa, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Apple’s Siri.
Google states,
“Since launching the Assistant last fall, we’ve been improving what it can do for you—from adding the ability to control more smart home devices with your Assistant on Google Home and Android phones to bringing your Assistant to new surfaces like Android Wear. And today, we’re introducing new ways your Assistant can help you do even more.”
Here are some of the top-notch features added to the Google Assistant.
- Google Assistant is now capable of analysing your surroundings via your smartphone camera, and offers you relevant content based on that learning. For this, Google has brought a new technology called Google Lens that makes your Assistant smarter.
- Now, you can buy stuff with your Google Assistant via Google’s own payment system, without going to any third-party payment site.
- Soon, you will be able to schedule appointments and set reminders to Google Assistant.
- Google has partnered with more than 70 smart home partners to provide the users with amazing digital assistant experience Google Home and Android phones.
- The company has promised that in coming months, users will be able to make hands-free phone calls with Google Assistant on their Google Home devices.
- Also, the Assistant is now available for iPhone devices also, in form of an iOS app.

However, the company says that the application will not work exactly like that in Android devices because of the app security restrictions imposed by Apple.
