Currently, via a
YouTube video, Google has announced major improvements in its Google Assistant across “eligible”
Android Marshmallow and Nougat devices, and these changes are now available. It was early this week at Mobile World Congress that Google unveiled its plan of launching its newly improved Assistant and here it is.
Android users residing in United States will first receive the update, followed by Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and Germany.
There is no Google Assistant app to download; instead the company will be adding functionality through an update to the Google Play Services. Hence, if you see a pop up in the Google Play Store, you’ll know that you will soon be gaining a new Assistant.
Google has yet not provided with the list of eligible devices but the company has stated that “hundreds of millions of Android users” will now be able to try the latest Google Assistant instead of the voice search feature. Seems like Siri is going to have a tough competition.
It is quite similar to the old interface, though Assistant is steadily picking up the new abilities and helpful tricks which were earlier not available. In order to activate the Google Assistant, all you need is to press long on the home button, and your Assistant is ready to be used.
