Today, at the
Build, Microsoft announced a new design system, Microsoft Fluent Design System. This new design system brings new ways to design apps using five elements, light, depth, motion, material, and scale. It brings a new way for creators and developers to bring creativity to their apps. It’s about a gradual shift in Microsoft’s design language.

Some elements start to glow, as you hover over them. Light controls how the UI interacts with illumination. For things like parallax effects and special effects in mixed and virtual experiences, i'ts imbued with a features of depth. In order to have panels with animations throughout the OS and apps and even for individual elements within a single app, it is endowed with motion facility. In order to control things like how elements can “bend, stretch, or bounce” as you interact with them, material helps to control the textures of UI elements. Its robustness is depicted by the scale of how apps respond on different devices. Windows Ink enabled devices have doubled in the last year or so and now with the help of the fluent design system, now Microsoft Edge brings Ink annotations in PDF.
