Windows Developer VM December 2016 Edition Released

Microsoft has released two versions of Windows developer Virtual Machine (VM) under the December 2016 edition, namely Evaluation VM and Licensed VM. Both these versions are made available on Windows Dev Center.
 
These new December 2016 builds are available in three flavors- Hyper-V Parallels, VirtualBox, and VMWare.
 
The evaluation VM contains the following, as per the official blog:
  • Windows 10 Enterprise Evaluation, Version 1607
  • Visual Studio 2015 Community Update 3 (Build 14.0.25425.01)
  • Windows developer SDK and tools (Build 14393)
  • Microsoft Azure SDK for .NET (Build 2.9.6)
  • Windows Bridge for iOS (0.2.161107)
  • Windows UWP samples (November 2016 Update)
  • Windows Bridge for iOS samples
  • Bash on Ubuntu on Windows
The licensed VM contains the following, as per the official blog:
  • Windows 10 Pro, Version 1607
  • Visual Studio 2015 Community Update 3 (Build 14.0.25425.01)
  • Windows developer SDK and tools (Build 14393)
  • Microsoft Azure SDK for .NET (Build 2.9.6)
  • Windows Bridge for iOS (0.2.161107)
  • Windows UWP samples (November 2016 Update)
  • Windows Bridge for iOS samples
  • Bash on Ubuntu on Windows
As the name itself indicates, the evaluation version will expire as soon as 04/08/17. This is for the developers who want to try this new release and yes, it is free. Also, for purchasing the latest Windows 10 Pro license, you need to go to the Microsoft Store
