How to download an extension using LightSwitch Visual Studio 2012

In this article I describe how to download an extension in LightSwitch using Visual Studio 2012.

Extensions allow us to add new capabilities to LightSwitch. We can directly download extensions from LightSwitch using the Extension Manager. After the download is complete, the extensions will appear in the Extensions tab of the Application Designer. We can easily enable or disable them.

Steps for downloading an extension in LightSwitch using Visual Studio 2012

Step 1

Go to the Tools menu, click "Extensions and Updates...".

Step 2

The Extensions and Update dialog box appears along with a list of installed extensions.

Step 3

In the Extensions and Updates dialog box, click and expand the "Online" node.

Step 4

A list of extensions appears.

Step 5

Select the extension that you want to download and then click on the "Download" button. Here I have used the Visual Studio 2012 Color Theme Editor.

Step 6

A Download and Install dialog box appears.

Step 7

In the Download and Install dialog box, read the license agreement. If you agree then click on the "Install" button.

Step 8

Click on the "Restart Now" button to restart LightSwitch.The extension will be available.
