Import Data From Facebook Using Power Query in Excel

I like Power Query day by day because it is very interesting. This tool is so good. We can import every external data from multiple sources.

Power Query is a very good and beneficial feature of Power BI. Power Query can be used to connect to data from public and private data sources. It merges data from multiple data sources for better analysis in Excel. Power Query has better capabilities to transform data. With Power Query business users can search an entire cloud data both public and private. Power Query enables the business users to search, combine, shape and also download data with multiple sources.

This article describes how to open Facebook using Power Query in Excel and also how to get data from Facebook using Power Query. There are some basic procedures to understand how to open Facebook using Power Query in Excel.

Step 1: Open Excel sheet

The first and major step is to open an Excel sheet.

Step 2: Select Power Query

The second step is to select Power Query from the menu bar.

Step 3: Select from other sources option

Now the next step is to select the from other sources option from Power Query.

When you select this option then it shows various options to import data from external sources.

Step 4: Select Facebook option

When this list is opened then select the Facebook option.

Specify object or connection

After selecting the option Facebook then this box will be opened and here the user specified an object and connection of what the user wants. Then click on the OK button.

In Facebook there are the following three types of connections:

  • None
  • Activities
  • Books

None: If the user selects the "None" connection type then Power Query imports any data from Facebook.

Activities: If the user selects the "Activities" connection type then Power Query imports the activities of the Facebook user from Facebook.

Books: If the user selects the "Books" connection type then Power Query imports books of the Facebook user that he/she likes from Facebook.

Example: Here in this example I select the object "Me" and select the connection as "Activities".

Step 6: Requires login id and password

Then it requires a login id and password of the Facebook user.

Then the Facebook user will receive this information.

This message shows that the Facebook user will receive information of Microsoft Power Query for Excel. If the user wants this information then click on the OK button and if the user does not want it then click on the Cancel button.

the Facebook user will receive this information.

This message shows that the Facebook user wants to manage the notifications of Microsoft Power Query for Excel. If the user wants this notification then click on the "Okay" button and if the user does not want it then click on the "Not Now" button.

Step 9: Query editor

This is the window of Power Query. Then click on the "Okay" button the query editor window will be opened and here you can see the activities of the Facebook user.

Step 10: Show data in Excel sheet

If you want to show the data that is shown in the query editor window then click on the "Apply and close" option.

Then you will see the data in the Excel sheet.
