Change Drive Letter in Windows 8

Introduction

In this article we are explaining how to change the drive letter in Windows 8. If you want to change the name of a Drive Letter then you can change it in Windows 8. If you do not like the letter that Windows has assign the new drive and you want to organize your Drive Letters in a certain way then you can change it. You cannot change the Drive Letter if the drive is either a System Partition or Boot Partition.

With the help of "Change Drive Letter Window", you can change the name of your drive to whatever you want. If your drive name is E and you want to change it then you can change the name of drive E to the letter F instead of E. Windows 8 helps you to change the Drive Letter. In Desktop Mode, right-click on "My Computer" and select the "Manage" and click on it.

After opening the Computer Management Window, you click on Disk Management under the Storage. In the Disk Management, right-click on whatever drive you want to change the name and then you can change the Drive Letter as described in this article.

In Desktop mode, click on My Computer. Before changing the name of the drive, I want to see the My Computer. I want to change the name of drive E.

Steps How to Change Drive Letters in Windows 8

Step 1 : In Desktop mode, right-click on My Computer and from the drop down menu click on Manage Tab.

Step 2 : In the Window that is shown, you will see the "Computer Management" Window.

Step 3 : In this step, you click on Disk Management under the Storage. So it is available in the left pane of the Window.

Step 4 : In this step, you right-click on whatever drive you want to change the letter for and from the drop down menu click on the "Change Drive Letters and Path" tab.

Step 5 : In the Window that is shown, you will see the "Change Drive Letters and Path" Window. In this Window, click on the "Change" Button.

Step 6 : In this step, you click on drop down menu and select the drive letter whatever you want and click on OK Button.

Step 7 : Before applying the settings, you will see the warning window. If you agree then click on the "Yes" Button.

Step 8 : In this step, click on My Computer; you will then see change Drive Letter.
