How to Change Windows 8 Product Key

Introduction

In this article we explain how to change the Windows 8 Product Key. We need to change the Product Key when the installed Product Key is invalid or the installed Product Key has expired or it may be another reason. Basically we change the Product Key from the Windows Properties by changing the Product Key option but sometimes that option has been disabled. In that condition we use the command prompt to change the Windows Product Key.

If you want to activate Windows then the key used must be valid and your PC must have an internet connection.

How to change the Windows 8 Product Key

Step 1

Go to the search box and type "cmd" and start the command prompt as Administrator.

Step 2

In the command prompt type "slmgr -upk" and run it to uninstall the previous key.

Step 3

Now type "slmgr.vbs -ipk <insert your new product key here>" and press Enter. A message will be displayed saying that the Product Key was successfully installed.

Step 4

Finally run "slmgr.vbs -ato" to activate Windows.
