Access the Windows 8 Power User Menu

Introduction

In this article we explain how to access the Power User Menu options from the Start Screen or Desktop in Windows 8.

Access Windows 8 Power User Menu on the Desktop

Step 1

First of all we have to move to the Windows 8 Desktop.

Step 2

Move the mouse over the lower left corner of the Desktop and the Start thumbnail pops up.

Now right-click on it to pull up a new menu that lists important Windows tools like Task Manager, Run, Event Viewer, Control Panel and more.

Step 4

We can access it from the new Start Screen too. Hover the mouse in the lower left corner, or press the "Win + X" shortcut key on the Desktop.

Step 5

Then we click on any of the tools we need from the menu and they'll launch on the Desktop.

While this isn't the way you used the Start menu in previous versions of Windows, it does allow you to access the admin tools you need to configure your system.
