Introduction
In this article we are going to explain how to resize a partition for free in Windows 8. In Windows 8 we will create an extra hard drive partition. We need to create extra partitions to backup system files, extend functionality and to use multiple operating systems.
Procedure to resize a partition for free in Windows 8
Step 1
In the Windows 8 Desktop, first we open the "Control Panel" and search for "partition" in the search box.
Step 2
Then click the link "Create and format hard disk partition" in the Control Panel window.
Shrink a Partition
Step 3
The Disk Management window opens; just right-click on the partition that we want to shrink, and select "Shrink Volume" from the menu.
Step 4
In the Shrink dialog, we will want to enter the amount we want to shrink by, not the new size.
For example, if we want to shrink our 50GB partition by roughly 10GB so that it will now be roughly 40GB then enter 10000 into the box.
Extend a Partition
To increase a partion's size, in the Disk Management window, just right-click on the partition that we want to extend and select "Extend Volume" from the menu.
On this screen, we can specify the amount that we want to increase the partition by. In this case, I'm going to extend it back to the roughly 50GB size that it was before.
