Windows 8 provides a taskbar for various types of functionality. On the taskbar there can be shortcut icons to all the programs you commonly use. The taskbar enables the user to working quickly get the application easily from the taskbar. Using the taskbar you can easily jump lists or to a particular item quickly and easy. You can also customize the functionality of the taskbar such show or hide the taskbar to use the full desktop screen, pin the program to the taskbar etc.
In this article we learn how to show or hide the taskbar in Windows 8.
To open the taskbar property window, the following steps are needed.
- Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
- Enter Control Panel in the search box. It will display at the right side.
- Then, click on the system and security.
- Then, go to Appearance and Personalization.
- Click on the Taskbar from the right side.

Windows provided an option that can be user to can set the auto hide the taskbar. This means the taskbar does not show until the user take to mouse pointer to at the bottom of the screen. As the user take away to mouse pointer from the taskbar it hides automatically. This feature enables the user to utilize the full screen of the monitor.
To Configure the auto hide feature of the desktop follow the steps given below.
- Open the taskbar property window using the above steps.
- Check "Auto-hide the taskbar" checkbox.
- Click the Ok button when you have done the configuration.
Now, the taskbar is shown when you hover the mouse pointer over the bottom of the screen.
As you move the mouse away from the bottom, the taskbar disappears.
