Managed Metadata Navigation in SharePoint 2013

Introduction

Managed Metadata Navigation is one of the most powerful features in SharePoint 2013 that simplifies the navigation and it is easy to manage using Term Store or Managed Metadata. In this article you will see how to configure Managed Metadata Navigation in SharePoint 2013. I have created a publishing site in which I will configure metadata navigation.

Create terms for navigation items

  1. Navigate to the SharePoint site (SharePoint).

  2. Click on "Settings" then click on "Site Settings".

  3. Click on the Term store navigation link that is available in the Site Administration section.

  4. In the Taxonomy Term Store, select Site Navigation term set available under Site Collection - c986.sharepoint.com-sites-Publishing Site group and then click on the Down Arrow.

  5. Click on "Create Term".

  6. Enter the Name as "About Me". On the right hand side click on the Navigation tab and select Simple Link or Header as Navigation Node Type. Enter the URL (on click of the navigation item it will be redirected to this specified URL). Click on "Save".

  7. Similarly create the following terms.

  8. Terms are created successfully for the navigation items.

Configure Metadata Navigation

  1. Navigate to the SharePoint site (SharePoint).

  2. Click on "Settings" and then click on "Site Settings".

  3. Click on "Navigation" available under the Look and Feel section.

  4. Select "Managed Navigation" for Global and Current Navigation.

  5. Select "Site Navigation" term set and then click on "Save".

  6. You will be able to see the managed metadata terms as navigation items in Current and Global navigation.
