How to Configure the Default Parameters For Storage Reports

Introduction

In this article you will learn how to configure the default parameters for Storage Reports.

Step 1

First of all open the Server Manager of your Windows Server 2012.

Now on the right hand side, an option will be available named "Tools", open it and click on the File Server Resource Manager.

Note: Ensure that you have already installed the File Server Resource Manager, otherwise this option will not be available under the Tools Menu.

Step 2

Now you will see that File Server Resource Manager is opened, that will look something like this:

Now under the Action Pane an option will be available named "Configure Option", click on this option and open it.

Step 3

Now Configure Option Wizard will be opened where by default E-Mail Notification Page will be opened.

Here click on the Storage Reports Tab, this will open the page where you can make changes in the default parameters of various reports.

Step 4

Under the Reports pane click on the Report Name in which you want to make the changes, like first I selected the File Screen Audit and then I click on the Edit Parameters. This type of report Identifies the users or applications that violate Screening Policies.

Here you can provide the number of days after which the File Screening Event Report is to be generated, you can also provide the User Name for which this type of report is to be generated and then click on the "OK" button.

Step 5

Now I go back and select the second report, in other words Files by File Group and then click on the Edit Parameters.

This report lists the files by file group, it is for observing the Usage Pattern of aFile Group, this type of report also helps the user to identify those File Groups that occupy a large amount of disk space.

Here you need to click on the File Group, after which you can edit it or you can also create it.

Step 6

Now I select the third type of report, in other words Files by Owner and then click on the Edit Parameters.

This type of report lists the files according to their owners. This report helps to identify the user that is using a large amount of disk space.

This type of report can be applied to all the users or you can specify the particular user on which it will be applied.

Similarly you can select a Report Type from the list available and can make changes in it.
