Providing Refresh, Retry and Expire Interval For a Zone

Introduction

In this article you will learn how to provide Refresh, Retry and Expire Interval for a Zone.

Before going through this article ensure that DNS is installed on your system, otherwise you will be unable to change the Zone Type, in fact Zone will also be not available to you.

Step 1

First of all open the Administrative Tools from the Start Menu.

Step 5

In the Tab Section you will see that an option is available named State of Authority (SOA), click on this Tab. This is the main area where we are going to work.

As you can see here you can provide Refresh Interval, Retry Interval and Expire Interval for the Zone:

  • Refresh Interval: It determines how often other DNS Servers that load and host the Zone must attempt to renew the Zone.
  • Retry Interval: It determines how often other DNS Servers that load and host the Zone are to retry a request for update of the Zone each time that the Refresh Interval occurs.
  • Expire Interval: It determines when data should be expired if it is not transferred successfully.

These intervals can be in days, hours or in minutes. You can provide these intervals according to your requirements.

After providing these intervals click on the "Ok" Button.
