Introduction
In this article, I am going to describe the Data Science Virtual Machine (DSVM) and also will demonstrate how to create the DSVM Windows Server 2016 on the Azure portal.
Prerequisites
An Azure subscription. If you don't have one, press this
link to register.
What is Data Science Virtual Machine?
DSVM is a virtual machine that differs from the normal virtual machines. In the normal virtual machines, we want to install all the required software and configuration as per our need but in DSVM, it provides the high-end professional work environment where all the required softwares are pre-installed. With DSVM, we have no need to worry about the configuration and performance because those things are very good in it. For additional information, do refer the following
Link.
Follow the below steps to create a Data Science Virtual Machine.
Step-1
Open your browser and sign-in into Azure
Portal using the Email and the desired password.
Then Enter the password and click next to sign-in into the portal.
Step-2
In the Azure portal , then press the "+New" and followed by "AI+Cognitive Services" and then Choose the "Data Science Virtual Machine - windows 2016".
In the Data science VM creation Virtual machine blade opens , then fill all the fileds in this balde .In this you want to remember the Username and password to authorize and connect with our VM.Create the desired resource group to contain all the configurations. Then choose the particular location to eatablish our VM.Press "OK" to continue the VM creation.
Step-3
In the Size tab , you choose your desired one to using on our VM.Then press "select" to proceed the next step .
Step-4
In this blade , don't change anything because for our DSVM all are predefined on all aspects like virtual networks , firewall etc..,Then press "ok".
Step-5
Finally it gives the detailed report of our VM and them mark the box to accept the terms and conditions for our DSVM.Then Press "Create" to create our Data Science Virtual Machine.
Step-6
After the Successful deployment , the dashboard and the notification bar shows that our Vm is deployed successfully.
Step-7
Follow the steps to connect the VM to our local machine. Open the deployed VM in dashborad and in the "Overview" tab press the connect bottom and then it downloads small (.rdp) file to connect our VM to our local machine.RDP file stands for Remote Desktop Protocol.
In downloads page I found that RDP file and opened it.
Step-8
Click to open the file. Press Connect to make the connection between our DSVM to the local machine.
Then use the user name and the password that we used in the creation of the VM to ensure the authorized person is accessing the VM.And press OK to login into our VM.
The press YES to connect the system to Remote desktop.
Step-9
Then it opens our DSVM in our local System with the pre-installed programs for the professionals.
Step-10
You may see the configuration and the programs installed for the profesional in the DSVM.That's all -- our virtual platform is ready to work with it without spending a lot of time installing the various other professional software.
The programs installed for the usage are seen below.
Summary
Finally we created the data science virtual machine for the professional work and I hope you can understand how to create the DSVM in the Azure portal. In the next article I am going to show how to create DSVM-Ubuntu.
