S. Somasegar talks about future of .NET

Here are some of my MVP Summit notes from Developer Roadmap session live from the session.

S. Somasegar talks about new work is being done after Visual Studio 2005.

  1. .NET 3.0 with WPF
  2. VS codename “Orcas”
    1. Best tool for applications for Windows Vista and Office 2007. Office development will be integrated as a part of Visual Studio “Orcas”.
    2. Improved Language and Data Integration
    3. Comprehensive and AJAX and SOA platform support
    4. Expanded role-based and team offering
    5. LINQ
    6. VSTS

Office Interoperability allows developers to use WPF, Windows Forms, and Custom Controls in Office applications.

One of the biggest problem solved in .NET 3.0 is deployment. New deployment is called "Friction-Free Deployment", which will not require .NET Run-time installation on target machines.

Check out below roadmap for next versions of .NET.

WPE

-         Platform independent

-         Browser independent

-         No .NET run-time required to run a WPF/E application

Brian Goldfarb talks about WPF/E and WPF and shows some cool features

  1. Ink integration in XAML
  2. Ink integration in HD Videos
  3. Video and audio integration in XAML
  4. Burton.com development

Right now Soma is talking about VSTS.
