Use Of RSS Viewer Web Part In SharePoint

RSS is a way of providing content to the user's browser or desktop in an efficient way. By using RSS feeds, the user can stay updated on the news from TOI and other news sources with little extra effort.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are normally provided in three ways - headlines only, headlines with excerpts and full text feeds. TOI provides you headlines with excerpts, for free.

SharePoint also provides the same RSS Webpart to add external content inside SharePoint site. You can display information from an external site by adding RSS Viewer Web part to a page on your site.

Steps for configuring RSS Viewer Web part in SharePoint 2013 are given below.
  1. Go to the SharePoint site page. Click Edit page.
  2. Choose a zone for the Web Part and click Add a Web Part in that zone. The Add Web Parts Web Page dialog box opens.
  3. In the Add Web Parts dialog box, select the Content Rollup Web Parts, select the RSS Viewer Webpart check box and subsequently click Add.

Click Open the Tool pane, as show below.

This will open the RSS View Web part properties dialog box. Go to RSS Properties section and give the RSS Feed URL in the given box. Here, I have given TOI news RSS feed URL. It should look, as shown below.

RSS feed URL : http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/rssfeeds/-2128833038.cms

Save the page and you will be able to see TOI news in your Website, which looks, as shown below.
