The first thing which we noticed on the Server is that there was not enough disk space so we went ahead and freed some space.

A quick look through the logs revealed the following:

w3wp.exe

All query processing components are in ‘Failed’ status.

Solution

On checking the Search Service Application, we saw a warning icon for the index partition and searchable items informing “All Errors”:

SharePoint

The first step in resolving this issue is by resetting the Search Index.

Note: Reset will remove the content index stored, so we have to do a full crawl to rebuild the index once all the Search components are healthy.

SharePoint

Reset will take approximately 1 min. The second step is to restart the Search Services.

  • SharePoint Server Search
  • SharePoint Search Host Controller

Now, we should have all the search components in green.

SharePoint

If we perform a Search operation, it would not show us any results since the Index was reset.

SharePoint

The next step is to perform a full crawl on the content source. Once it is complete, we should see Search results.

Hope this helps you.
