What am I? A Joker?

On Tuesday, I attended Indian Ocean concert at world café live in Philadelphia and I have to admit, I was impressed with the group’s performance. Not to mention, the group is from my native area (Faridabad/New Delhi). The concert was over at 10:00 PM but I hung out with the group till 1:00 AM and chatted on various topics including culture, society, music, and their journey from New Delhi to United States. You have to give guys credit for not having any formal training (all four guys are self-taught musicians) and be at this stage of their musical life.

One of the guys from the group asked me, “What are you”?

Actually, I had no quick answer for him. What do I tell him? Who am I? What am I?

I often ask myself, what am I? An entrepreneur? An author? A consultant? A founder? A CEO? A developer? A programmer? A designer? A tester?

These are bunch of titles/jobs, I own in my every day life. My typical week starts as a consultant for a client and ends with either a testing or authoring work. In between, I am a CEO, a director, an author, a developer, a designer, and a tester.

  1. As an entrepreneur, I started several businesses and more are on the way. My latest venture is Modeling Corner
  2. I am “the founder” of several websites and do test all new functionality added to the sites. Hence, I become a founder and a tester.
  3. I own titles of CEO and directors for the consulting and other companies.
  4. I am an author of several books.
  5. I do design some websites my own and also get help from several other people in the group.

I wear these different hats for different kinds of audiences. The closest title comes to my mind is “A Joker" at a Circus.

A joker wears different hats for different kinds of audiences to make every body happy. I guess, this is what I am.

After a little pause, the answer I told the guy was, “I am a joker”. He laughed.

I am sure, many of us here play role of a joker. Don’t forget to share your story ;-).
