Windows 8 Consumer Preview is available now

Windows 8 available now

As I mentioned in my previous blog Windows 8 Beta at MVP Summit, I guess I was almost right. Not Windows 8 beta but a very close version of Windows 8 consumer preview will be available on Feb 29 which means it will be given to the MVPs at the summit. MVP Summit it happening now.

Windows Consumer Preview is available to download here

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Setup will check to see if your PC can run Windows 8 Consumer Preview and select the right download. Setup also features a compatibility report and upgrade assistance. Built-in tools for creating an ISO or bootable flash drive are available for some previous versions of Windows (excluding Windows XP and earlier). Keep in mind, Windows 8 not only a new operating system but it also loaded with new IE 10. Same day, Microsoft also plans to announce Visual Studio 11 Beta.

IE 10 will be loaded on your Windows when you download Windows 8 on your machine.

Here is the hardware requirements for the Consumer Preview:

  • 1 GHz or faster processor
  • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
  • 1024x768 resolution
