Windows Live being dropped in
Windows 8
Windows 8 Consumer Preview was announced on Feb 29 and then there were rumors that
Windows will come out probably late this year. I wasn't
sure that Microsoft is behind on the development. It's already June knocking
the door and Windows 8 beta is not even out there. However, Microsoft did
launch Windows Server 8 beta
recently.
That said there have been several technologies being
dropped and/or replaced in Windows 8 and new SkyDrive era. You have heard that Microsoft plans to fly high with SkyDrive and Windows
8.
One of the technologies that will be dropped in Windows 8
is Windows Live. If you use Windows operating system, I am certain you have
seen Windows Live Ids for logins. Today, Windows Live ids are used to login to
MSDN, Windows Live messenger, Hotmail and other Microsoft services.
In Windows 8 “perfect” world, when you start your Windows
8 PC first time, you will be asked to setup an account and that will be used to
connect to SkyDrive and login to all kinds of devices and services including
SkyDrive storage, Windows 8 tablets, Windows Phone devices, Xbox console,
messenger, Zune, and Windows 8 store.
I am not sure how smooth the transition will be, it
certainly sounds good to me. I need just one account to login to all these
services? I am sure Microsoft do have plan to convert existing Windows Live Ids
to new Windows accounts.
