a way to make an app that runs in tray that pauses or freezes the screen (and unpauses) on a keypress?

I cant seem to find anything on this.. Does anyone know how this could be achieved?

I'd want to freeze the entire desktop with a single keypress, then undo it with the same or different keypress.

(windows app, win vista or win 7, x86/x64)..

What is this? What is it that you want to do that to? Is this the part that is in the subject? It will really help to include everything relevant in the body of the question. Don't assume we will see the subject to understand the question. For one thing I have noticed that everytime that is done the question needs to be clarified. First note that this is actually multiple questions. The part about writing an application that is in the task bar notification area is separate from freezing and unfreezing the screen. The part about pressing a key is separate from the part about freezing the screen. They are related only in the sense that your requirements make them related. The way to do them are not related. People that answer questions are less likely to help with very general questions that require a lot of time to answer because they ask for so much. Also for reading key presses see the articles in this web site. The thing that is not clear is if you are asking how to do this for one application you wrote or one application that you don't have the source code for or all applications.
