Building sql server database with window application setup building in C#.net

Question

Hi This is kanchan sharma. I want to know that how to build Sql server database with C#.net window application so that the application can use the database without instaling Sql server edition on any system. I mean that the database should works as it is inbulid for this application and application can uses inbuild database on any system without requirment of Sql server express edition. If someone knows the answer please tell me in detail & step by step. Thanks.

I think SQL Server does not work like that. You might look at SQL Server Compact Edition though. There are other database systems that might work the way you want. I do not know what they are however; maybe SQLite . Another possibility would be to store the data as XML.

Hi Kanachan The .mdf files are SQL Server database files. I am not sure if any other application other than SQL Server can understand read or update those files. If you need to open SQL Server database files you need a SQL instance and that instance can be either on your local machine or can be an Express edition it does not matter. I am not sure if this answers you question.
